Quantum Locations

Quantum physics research in Germany has a long tradition, but is also future-oriented thanks to a large number of activities in the academic and industrial environment. The map of quantum locations illustrates this dynamic. Is your institution also associated with quantum physics in a special way? Then register it as a quantum location! Quantum locations receive a building plaque with a QR code that links to the map.

Register quantum location

Information about registration and the plaque can be found below.

Registration of the quantum location

To take part, any institution that makes significant contributions to the quantum landscape in Germany is invited to register as a quantum location via the website. Registration includes information on the significance of the submitted quantum location and a link to its website. Submitted content will be reviewed by a board of trustees before being published on the ‘100 Quantum Locations in Germany’ website. There are currently no plans to use the information beyond the duration of the quantum year.

Selection of the quantum location

Institutes or research projects that are located at a joint university or in the immediate vicinity should, if possible, join together to form units and present themselves as one quantum location. We therefore ask you to coordinate this locally on your own initiative and to present yourself together with other institutes or units (see, for example, Saarland University, Cologne University, RWTH Aachen University, Ulm University and DLR, or Heidelberg University). You can then use the linked website to refer to deeper local structures as you wish.

Website of the quantum location

Each participating institution can use the entry on the map to refer to information within its own website for which it is responsible, if necessary with a reference back to the Quantum Year 2025. Ideally, information will be provided on the tradition of the institution, what activities are currently taking place and how the quantum research taking place there will affect the future.

Plaque at the quantum location

Based on the profile data of the quantum location, a plaque is produced which can be attached to the quantum location independently and clearly visible. Each quantum place receives a plaque, further copies are possible at self-cost. Each quantum location organises the affixing of the plaque itself; the DPG accepts no liability for the affixing.

Data on the plaque:

  • contains the ‘Official title of the quantum place’ and the ‘Significance as a quantum place’ as entered in the registration form
  • contains QR code on the map of quantum places
  • will be sent to contact person:in according to the registration form
  • Dimensions 25 cm x 25 cm
  • 5mm acrylic glass, transparent with white background
  • For gluing, screwing on is possible with independent hole drilling

Note on communication

After submitting the form, you will be notified that the data has been received. These will be checked and approved by a board of trustees. After the quantum location has been published on the map, you will be contacted with a preview of the plaque. The plaque will then be sent to you. You are responsible for installing the plaque at the respective location. We would be delighted if you would take this as an opportunity for public communication about your institution and the quantum year!
